Located on the 88th floor of the Jin Mao Tower in Pudong's Lujiazui district, the observation deck sits 340 meters above the city. Reached in 45 seconds via high-speed elevator, the indoor hall offers sweeping views across the Huangpu River and a look down into the building's dizzying 33-story hotel atrium. However, the tower's headline attraction is the outdoor skywalk that runs along the exterior facade.

The Jin Mao Skywalk is a 60-meter-long, 1.2-meter-wide open-air glass walkway suspended 340.6 meters above the ground. What sets it apart from standard observation decks is the absence of handrails or guardrails. Visitors wear full safety harnesses tethered to an overhead steel track and are led out onto the glass ledge in small groups by trained instructors, walking with clear drops directly beneath their feet.

The walk delivers a considerable adrenaline rush paired with completely unobstructed, windblown views of Shanghai's skyline. Under the guidance of the safety staff, participants can sit over the edge or lean back against their harnesses over the open drop. For safety reasons, loose personal belongings including mobile phones and cameras are not permitted on the ledge and must be stored in lockers before going outside, with staff photographers documenting the experience instead.
