Located on the 37th floor of the Shanghai Tower in Lujiazui, the Shanghai Guanfu Museum is the local branch of China's first private museum, founded in Beijing in 1996 by collector Ma Weidu. The museum showcases a private collection of traditional Chinese decorative arts and antiquities within the modern setting of the skyscraper.
The collection is arranged into four permanent galleries alongside a temporary exhibition hall. The Porcelain Hall focuses on ancient ceramics, with a particular emphasis on Song dynasty wares. The Gold Hall presents gold ornaments and ceremonial objects dating from early dynasties through the Ming and Qing eras. The Statue Hall displays Buddhist sculptures in gilded bronze, stone, and wood, while the East-West Hall focuses on export porcelain and trade pieces that reflect historical artistic exchange between China and the Western world.
