Here stands Fazang Temple, known in Chinese as Fazangjiang Si. We are tucked right into the surrounding city blocks here, just a short walk from Laoximen Metro Station.
This temple belongs to the Tiantai sect of Buddhism. That makes it a dedicated center for Tiantai teachings right in the heart of Shanghai.
Take a close look at the building itself. The exterior surroundings have a distinct Western architectural feel, while the inside reflects traditional Chinese design. It serves as a good symbol of the blending between Chinese and Western culture that developed Shanghai.
